“A CA (Chartered Accountant) who dreamt of settling in CA”- Himanshu Chattwal

Belonging to a Punjabi family settled in Delhi with many relatives settled abroad in Canada (CA) or the United States, particularly in, California (CA), the ultimate dream of a young 10-year-old was to settle in these shores once he grows big like his celebrated cousins who were given 5-star treatment whenever they visited his home in India from the U.S.A or Canada.

But life had something else in store for this young chap.

Who knew (even the boy himself 😊) that this young lad will one day be counted among a community of just ~ 5 Lakh people in a country of 150 Cr population.

Today we will talk about this guy – of course whose childhood dream of living the great American dream didn’t fructify but he fulfilled his other dream – of becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA).

CA HIMANSHU CHATTWAL

Born and brought up in Delhi in a family of accountants, Himanshu Chattwal grew up hearing Debits and Credits too early in his life. In fact, his day revolved around these terms so much that he developed a fascination for accounting, taxation and book keeping at an age when he actually didn’t know the real meaning of these terms!

Of course, his interest in accounting and mathematics made him take up Commerce as a discipline in 10+2 with an inherent wish of becoming a Chartered Accountant.

After completing his schooling, Himanshu enrolled for the CA course and before he could take stock of time, he had prefix CA attached to his name.

Having started his professional journey in 2005, Himanshu Chattwal had one goal of becoming a complete finance professional in his mind – a goal towards which he worked tirelessly.

For close to next two decades, Himanshu Chattwal tried his hand at different functions in Finance ranging from Statutory reporting, Internal Audits, SOX audits, Forensic audits, FP&A and later on settled in Finance Business partnering roles.

The unflinching pursuit of being the best in Finance kept on driving the energy within Himanshu Chattwal.

Obviously, since he started his career as an Internal control analyst, he was tagged as someone who may not be possessing skills in core finance and was being labelled as a process analyst. But, he never let any tag prejudice his career and to further enhance his skills in core accounting roles, he completed his certification in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in 2008.

Having an international degree too under his repertoire, Himanshu Chattwal never shied away from taking any new project or responsibility that came his way.

Continuous persistence and pursuit of excellence for so many years have yielded astounding results for Himanshu Chattwal.

Today, he is leading a large Finance function with a listed IT services conglomerate.

Not only this, Himanshu Chattwal always had the dream of giving back to society in terms of knowledge sharing and making finance brilliant.

To fulfil this dream, Himanshu embarked on a journey of spreading financial awareness among masses and helping young CAs or other finance professionals move up the career path through imparting trainings and deliberations on finance related skills and soft skills.

Himanshu has been felicitated as young and promising Finance leader at many forums and has been handpicked as a top voice on finance related topics.

Himanshu is fulfilling his dream of giving back to community by sharing his knowledge, experiences and life journey with young professionals so that they can be the harbinger of excellent times for finance profession with the ultimate aim of “MAKING FINANCE BRILLIANT.“
